Capella’s all-new sister brand launches in the Maldives with distinct wellness concept

02 Jul 2021
Capella Hotel Group has unveiled the first installation of its sister-brand Patina Hotels & Resorts in the tranquil setting of the Maldives’ North Malé Atoll.

Conceived as an ultra-luxury lifestyle brand for progressive travellers of a new generation, Patina is a thoughtful sister to Capella, with the potential for both to be operated in close proximity.

Inaugural property Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan – founder of Studio MK27 – to play on ideas of duality, human connection, biophilia and holistic health. Accommodation consists of 90 one-, two- or three-bedroom villas alongside 20 Fari Studios.

Patina’s wellness concept, Flow, “has a curious and adventurous character represented by the phrase ‘state of mind, body and play’,” said Nick Clayton, Capella CEO, speaking exclusively to Spa Business.

“Health and lifestyle experts, known as ‘resident hackers’, programme wellness journeys at Flow. This can include treatments that improve cellular health, such as lymphatic drainage, or sessions incorporating technologies like hyperbaric chambers, sound and light rooms.

“Fitness amenities also have a playful element and there’s a plant-based restaurant concept, named Roots.”

Spanning 1,500sq m, the Flow spa at Patina Maldives offers a host of curative and preventive remedies to help heal guests through sound, touch and intelligent technology.

Facilities include six double treatment rooms, a Watsu treatment suite, flotation tank suite, Hammam, sauna, hydrotherapy pools and salon services.

Guests are also offered spa rituals powered by Malibu’s seaweed-based product house Osea, biohacking applications such as sound immersion therapy and exclusively-designed vitamin blends provided by Nourished – creators of bespoke 3D-printed ‘gummy stacks’ of nutritional supplements.

Personal growth is further encouraged through access to sleep therapists, nutritionists, Reiki practitioners and posture specialists.

Sofija Misljenovic is leading the new facility as director of wellbeing. She’s been tasked with kickstarting a new wave of integrative wellness therapies in the Maldives – combining ancient and modern techniques to help achieve the optimum equilibrium for guests’ wellbeing.

Misljenovic has 15 years’ global experience in the wellness industry including time with luxury brands such as Hyatt, Kempinski, Marriott and Westin.

Following the Maldives debut this month, Patina will open next in Bali, Japan and China over the next five to 10 years.
