Marine-inspired healing offered by Afiya Spa at five-star Istanbul hotel

12 Mar 2020
Guests can experience the ancient healing tradition of seaweed wellness treatments at the Ottoman-inspired Afiya Spa in Istanbul.

Afiya Spa is offering the seaweed-based Ajwa Special Slimming Care treatment, supplied by marine-inspired product house Thalion.

The treatment is claimed to encourage the breakdown of fat and includes a body peel and massage using seaweed extract activating gel.

The treatment lasts 90 minutes and costs €90 (£87, US$100).

Housed inside the five-star AJWA Hotel Sultanahmet, the 450sq m Afiya Spa includes three treatment rooms along with a traditional Turkish hammam, steamroom, sauna, indoor pool and gym.

“Seaweed actively absorbs vitamins and minerals from the seawater and is then used to replenish the body’s minerals and renew skin cells,” said Leyla Çöhen, spa manager at the Afiya Spa.

“Our spa offers its guests a range of luxury services by combining traditional rituals adapted to modern life,” said Çöhen. “We prefer to use natural and organic products in our treatments which is what inspired us to include seaweed in our procedures.”

Alongside Thalion, the spa has also selected Phytomer to supply its treatments – a product house which uses active marine ingredients.

Afiya Spa is also offering treatments using other marine ingredients, with desalinated ocean water and marine plants featuring in the 70-minute Deep Cleansing Care facial ritual, which costs €135 (£117, US$150).

After cleansing skin, the procedure begins with a facial steam and firming treatment, followed by the application of a structuring ampoule. The treatment is completed with a combination of a cream mask and serum.
