Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection debuts refreshed spa rooted in Mexican healing traditions

14 Dec 2023
Mexican beachfront resort Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection, has unveiled its revamped award-winning spa, complete with new treatments and refreshed facilities.

“We’re thrilled to re-introduce the spa with a new ancestral healing philosophy, inspired by Baja California’s distinct locale and Mexico’s rich history and culture,” said Marc Rodriguez, GM of the Los Cabos resort.

“The Spa at Esperanza will continue to deliver impressive results and further celebrate the soul of Esperanza that guests and owners have come to know and love.

“Enhanced treatments, contemporary menu offerings and state-of-the-art technology promote a personalised approach to wellbeing rooted in traditional therapies.”

Updated with a brand new fitness centre, the spa is home to a yoga studio, a steamroom, soaking tubs, outdoor showers, an Apothecary Blending Bar and an outdoor relaxation lounge sheltered by an overhead palapa.

Four pools, a salon, a nail bar and hot and cold plunges complete the offering.

Rituals inspired by indigenous healing practices
The new treatment menu at the Spa at Esperanza is inspired by the ancient Mexica (Aztec) medicine wheel, a framework used by numerous indigenous peoples of the Americas for many centuries.

The four quadrants of the medicine wheel each focus on different natural elements – earth, water, fire and air – and are accompanied by treatment experiences relating to four areas of wellbeing; physical, mental, spiritual and emotional.

Curated by lead therapist Connie Ruiz, the new therapies are said to embrace the wheel as a sacred symbol of hope that represents all knowledge of the universe, inspiring movement toward healing for those who seek it.

New skincare partnerships
Alongside refinements to Esperanza’s signature spa treatments, new body and skincare rituals that emphasise local cultural practices are cornerstones of the spa’s revitalisation.

Highlights include experiences incorporating native Los Cabos ingredients – such as organic aloe and cacao – to foster a connection to the region.

The Spa at Esperanza has also rolled out treatments supplied by science-led beauty and spa brand Augustinus Bader and beauty tech brand Geneo. The two brands join Esperanza’s existing list of spa partners, including Osea and Lola’s Apothecary.

To inspire the next generation to embrace self-care, treatments for kids ranging from massages to facials and nail treatments are also available.

Visiting masters
To mark the spa’s new approach, Mexican spiritual practitioner and mesoamerican therapy expert Fernanda Montiel conducted a spiritual blessing ceremony in the space and will kick off the Spa at Esperanza’s Visiting Masters programme.

Montiel will return to the spa from 2-9 March, 2024, to deliver ancient meditations, Mayan astrology readings and geotherapy.

Immersive half-day journeys
New half-day five-hour wellness journeys offer guests further opportunities to reach peak rejuvenation by embracing all four quadrants of the medicine wheel, with each experience incorporating all four elements.

Depending on the journey chosen, a curated selection of services will follow to encourage nourishment of the body and soul.

A seasonally inspired lunch at award-winning, oceanfront signature restaurant Cocina del Mar is designed to nourish both body and soul, completing the journey.
