Breakers Hotel in Long Beach to relaunch as Fairmont property with tech-forward spa in 2024

03 May 2024
The historic Breakers Hotel in Long Beach, California, is set to reopen in mid-2024 as a Fairmont Hotels & Resorts property after a significant restoration and redevelopment project.

The project, initially unveiled in 2022 by Accor (Fairmont's parent company), marks a strategic collaboration with Pacific6 – a Long Beach-based investment and development firm and also the parent company of Fairmont Breakers Investco.

The Breakers Hotel opened in the roaring twenties as a lavish waterfront leisure destination and was a sought-after destination for dignitaries and celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor and Cary Grant, among other Hollywood stars.

The property will reopen as Fairmont The Breakers, Long Beach and feature 185 boutique hotel rooms and suites and a luxury spa.

The 10-treatment-room spa will focus on medical wellness tech and recovery and will be located in the hotel's two-floor wellness and fitness centre.

Additional amenities will include a rooftop pool and terrace; an open-air rooftop lounge and bar with 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and LA basin; a live jazz club and music lounge; five F&B venues; and more than 12,000sq ft of indoor and outdoor meeting space.

“Fairmont and Accor are committed to growing our unique collection of hotels in the region, and we’re thrilled to add this landmark property to our North American portfolio,” said Heather McCrory, CEO of Accor North & Central America.

“Fairmont is renowned for the brand’s iconic, history-making properties and The Breakers now becomes a part of that global legacy. The project will set the standard for luxury hospitality in Long Beach, bringing to life a vibrant and thriving destination appealing to locals and visitors alike. The timing is also ideal to add a third standout Fairmont property in Los Angeles, in advance of the Fifa World Cup in 2026 and Summer Olympics in 2028.”
